Obama!?!?!?!
All the build up and now the election is over. What does this mean for our country? I seem to have more questions now than before, during the campaigns. Not really happy with how ugly those turned out to be either…why does it always turn to mud-slinging, no matter how high the character level of the candidates? Congratulations President-Elect Obama….now produce!
Minus the Yankees…the post-season has begun…
Without the Yankees, I’m cheering for the Cubs and Rays, with ultimately the Cubbies becoming the World Series champions! Answer the survey with your prediction.
IE8 initial thoughts
Dabbling in some web development over the years I have absolutely hated IE because of their decision to stray from the standards and do their own thing making it hell as a developer to incorporate all kinds of IE specific hacks just so your pages can remain consistent. So when IE8 was announced and it’s claims of being more standards compliant, based on the CSS 2.1 standard, HTML 5, I was a little curious so I had a look and watched some of the demos. I must admit it does have some cool features like the Accelerators, but standards compliance is something that you can’t just witness, you have to get into the code. So, against my better judgement I’m going to install it and if I can find some time test out some code and report back as to how “compliant” to standards IE8 actually is…we shall see.
The house that became a home…
Last night was the last regular season home game in Yankee Stadium and as I watched the game on TV and the history and the celebration afterwards, I couldn’t help but be a little emotional. The history is just staggering of the events, not only sports, that took place there. One of the best things is that the Yankees won the last game, AND Boston didn’t clinch their playoff spot by anything the Yankees did in that series against Baltimore…a very proud day for Yankee fans, considering the season. One of the signs in the stands summed it up beautifully…It started as a house, but ended as a home. Well said. I did have the thrill of seeing a couple games at the Stadium, one when I was very young, and the last in 2001. We took the field tour before the game and I absolutely had goose bumps being down on the field and in monument park…amazing history and tradition that you could just feel, all around you. The new stadium just won’t be the same but as Derek Jeter said, it’s up to the fans to carry on the memories.
Another big game….another big choke!
Well the Buckeyes were absolutely horrid in their loss to USC on Saturday and I’m not sure what to say. We got our asses handed to us on both sides of the ball. I truly expected this to be a close game throughout, but you give Pete Carroll two weeks to game plan…it’s going to be a tough disadvantage to overcome. Hats off and the only reason things didn’t totally suck was the humiliation of Michigan by Notre Dame.
Go Bucks!
Football….Football….Football
Usually I don’t pay this much attention to football so early in the season, but since the Yankees are likely going to miss the playoffs AND the Buckeyes play USC next Saturday AND the Cowboys are off to a decent start, it has my attention. And oh yeah, Michigan already lost! Let the pigskin commence!
Jott.com out of Beta…
I’ve come to rely pretty heavily on Jott.com but now that it’s out of Beta, I kind of have mixed feelings. On one hand, it means that it’s one of the Web 2.0 sites that won’t (at least in the near future) just fade to black and I’m happy for their success. On the other hand, it means the days of beta testing and free features are over. *sigh*
Anyway, if you don’t know about Jott, have a look and decide for yourself what, if any, features you might be willing to pay for.
Plus, now that I’m posting more regularly to here, I might get it transcribed through Jott, to WordPress…how cool is that!?!?!?
More Olympics….
I’m a junkie…no question! Can’t help it! I’m even dreading the Olympics being over…how will I go on…what will I watch…will I actually get sleep?
I have to absolutely mention Michael Phelps and his performance…we just witnessed something VERY special! Lost in that is Natalie Coughlin’s 6 medals which is also amazing. Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh are absolute legends! So many stories, triumphs, disappointments. Women’s softball would have to be a disappointment.
What moments are most memorable for you?
Is it for the better???
There is a really good article that asks if we’ve changed our habits due to gas prices, or maybe other reasons like taking better care of our environment, or just plain saving $$$. It brings up some really good points. Those of you who use potassium salt for your water softener are probably aware, but that salt is produced in Canada and with the gas/oil prices lately, the price of a bag of salt went from $7 to $15. Gas prices and transportation costs impact everything. The pool cleaning/maintenance companies in town are tacking on $10 to every service visit to offset the price of filling their tanks! Have the gas prices changed your lives at all? And if so, is it for the better? (Take the poll on the right…)
Got the fever!!!
Olympic fever that is!! Wow, what an incredible start to the Summer Olympics. The opening ceremony was spectacular and if you didn’t have goosebumps when Jason Lezak came from behind to beat the smack-talking Frenchies in the 4×100 freestyle relay, then you don’t deserve to be an American!! And what about Pres. Bush…does he have nothing better to do than harass the athletes? Actually it’s pretty cool to see a President so involved…the interview with Bob Costas was classic though “I don’t see America having problems”. Seriously Dub-Yah?!?!?!? Really?!?!?!?!? Hey, what about Bob Costas for President?? I’d vote for him!
