A Geek Nation…
People never cease to amaze me! There has been recent talk going around that someone cracked the algorithm to always come up with a winning number for the iTunes/Pepsi free music giveaway.
Leave it to the Geek community, which admittedly I am usually a part of, to over analyze a situation when there is a much more logical solution.
It’s not rocket science people! To quote one of the entries in the discussion above…”never underestimate the stupidity of people in large numbers”.
Firebird now equals Firefox
What browser do you use? About 95% will say Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you’ve ever developed web pages you cannot ignore this massive percentage. However, IE is a piece of crap when it comes to standards. For instance, I love CSS but sometimes getting things to work with IE usually involves a lot of cussing and pulling my hair out.
Another percentage you cannot ignore is the 5% that use other browsers like Safari, Netscape, Opera and Mozilla just to name a few. That brings me to my next little gem…Firebird now known as Firefox. It’s just really the browser piece of the Mozilla suite. It ranks up there with Opera as far as following the standards and has many of the other cool features built in already like a pop-up blocker. You can have themes and also various helper extensions. If you can’t find something, you can even make your own. Try doing that with IE!! There’s my plug for Firebird, errr Firefox, now happy surfing.
Miracle
Has anyone seen this movie yet? I’m thinking of taking my team to go see it. There are a few events throughout my childhood that I vividly remember and that hockey game is one of them. I just remember the joy of our team winning, against the Russians even, but what I remember most is the reactions of the grown-ups around me. And I didn’t realize at the time how important this win was to the American Spirit with so many other bad things going on.
Super Bowl Snafu
Jackson style…everyone else is talking about it, so why not.
And I’ll be darned if I didn’t miss it.
So was it offensive? I’m curious to hear others opinions about Janet’s “exposee” sort to speak…
Technology we can’t live without…
We rely on technology more and more every day. Is that a good thing?
Right now, looks like my TiVo may be down for the count and I’m scared! How will I survive? I’ve come to rely so much on that damn thing. And my wife, who wasn’t too sure about it in the first place, is more scared than me, I think.
What piece of technology have you become maybe a little too reliant on?
What a bust…
Wow…2 posts in 1 day!
Everyone who knows me, knows I’m a Yankee fan. Well news today is that Aaron Boone hurt his knee playing basketball and could be out the ENTIRE season. What a big bust he has turned out to be. Other than the one home run off Wakefield, this guy has been pretty worthless…and now this.
That brings me to my real question. How much control should a team have over one of their investments? I mean, should the Yankees have to pay him a salary this year? I’ve heard of a lot of strange things being written into athletes contracts, but how far is too far? Then again, that is a huge investment to pay these athletes without a safety clause and it truly is a business now days.
Front-runner…
I’m usually not one to get too caught up in politics.
That said, is it me or are the Democratic hopefuls really weak? I admit I really haven’t been following much, but nobody is standing out to me. I thought Wesley Clark was initially interesting, but has since faded.
Here is an interesting poll on the topic.
Financial savvy..
I love to read. And that’s going to be a topic of a future post, but I simply crave information.
One topic that I could alway use help in is finances. Anyone have any good sources of financial information?
I have read a couple of the Motley Fool books…those guys are great and their web site is a good source of info too.
Also, one of my high school buddies has been running his financial portal web site for some time now. Check out InvestmentSeek.com
Perfect birthday gift…

Pete’s confession
So now, after all this time of denying that he ever bet on baseball, Pete Rose is confessing his sins against baseball.
Baseball’s all-time hit leader bet on baseball while he was managing the Reds. However disappointing this may be, we really kinda knew it happened.
What do you think this does for Pete, his standing in the baseball world, in the baseball record books or as a man? Why now, after all these years, give in and admit you bet on baseball Pete?
Whatever you believe, it’s all major publicity for his upcoming book. Was that the motivation for giving in? I guess we’ll find out Pete’s side of the story soon…looks like he has a tv interview sometime this Thursday.
Will baseball, and more importantly, the Commissioner forgive him? Stay tuned…
